JK Fine Foods Aberdeen: Our Story

In 1909 my great grandfather George Main had an ambition to land only the highest quality seafood. Docking his boat ‘The Frigate Bird’ in Aberdeen, his catch would be taken to the old Aberdeen Fishmarket ready for auction.

As a skipper, George grew his operations building a reputation for catching only the finest seafood. Following long days at sea, George would return to the family home where my great grandmother would prepare her famous family dishes including Cullen Skink and haddock. Monkfish were deemed too ugly to be edible and shovelled over the side of the boat at sea to create space for more valuable catch. Oh, how times and tastes have changed – Monkfish is now one of the jewels of the North Sea commanding higher prices than most other fish. If only my great grandfather knew what I know now.

Over a century later and four generations on, George’s passion for the finest and freshest Scottish produce has continued to run through the heart of family. Inspired by the legacy of my great grandfather, trading under the name JK The Home of Fine Foods, I continue to sell quality, sustainable produce. With a focus on modern logistics, JK’s fleet of specialised vans fitted with separate ambient, chilled and freezer compartments ensure that you receive only the freshest and finest seafood, game and meat.

Sourcing the freshest seafood from the docks of Peterhead and collecting high quality meat directly from the Highlands, all JK The Home of Fine Food’s produce is sourced locally within Scotland.

Understanding that there is nothing like the luxury of good food, JK The Home of Fine Foods allows you to experience 5 star dining in the comfort of your own home.

Enjoy!
